It’s official.  ObamaBiden 2008.  After ABC news reported that the Secret Service had been dispatched to Sen. Biden last night, it was confirmed by sources connected to the Obama campaign that the Delaware senator is the pick. The official text was sent out at 3:05am.  Obama has told sources that he made his choice while on vacation in Hawaii.  Sen. Biden is a roman catholic born in Scranton, Pennsylvania who rides the Amtrak to work everyday from Delaware.  Biden is reported to be the “poorest” senator on capitol hill earning about $300, 000 annually.  The Delaware senator will be an asset to Obama in reaching out to the working class voters.   By senate standards, Biden is working class.  Biden serves as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and served as a Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in the past. Biden clearly has the foreign relations gravitas that compliments the ticket well.  Sen. Biden will appear with Sen. Obama on Saturday in Springfield, Illinois.  The next question will be if Sen. Biden will run for his Delaware senate seat while running as VP.  My guess is yes.

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama’s running mate — Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine — have been told they have not been selected to be Obama’s running mate.
